CO 72 stitches, place sm Knit in the round for 4 and 1/2 inches (4 inches if you measure with brim rolled). Begin Decrease: K6, K2 tog, repeat to end of round, K next round K5, K2 tog, repeat to end of round, K next round Continue this pattern until you have 9 stitches. Knit these 9 stitches for a length of 3 inches and cut yarn leaving enough to weave through. Tie this stem into a knot. Voila!!
Optional tops. Weave in 9 stitches and add a pom pom. Colors: Be creative with adding stripes.
If you knit loosely, use a size 6 needle. The top of the hat will be flatter, and just as nice, if you omit the K row between each decrease.
